Naturists came to Abbott’s Glen in Vermont to enjoy Columbus Day weekend festivities and beautiful fall foliage. Friday evening guests enjoyed wood-fired pizzas prepared by Chef Gerry. While guests gathered in the Carriage House next to the wood stove with a beverage, Gerry was preparing the dough for a variety of toppers. A vegetarian Provencal pizza with a garlic aoli, eggplant, tomatoes, & peppers was the favorite until a BBQ chicken pizza was placed out for guests to have a second slice. A blend of shredded chicken, maple BBQ sauce, and a Monterey jack & Vermont cheddar combo kept the meat eaters very happy. The show stopper dessert was built on a pizza crust with raspberries, a homemade caramel sauce, chocolate chips, coconut, and marshmallows shredded to look like mozzarella.
Who knew one could have pizza for dessert? Our naturist guests ate it all.
Once everyone was sated with pizza, the evening continued with live Karaoke featuring Dan the Human Jukebox playing his acoustic guitar. Our naturist guests sang everything from James Taylor & John Denver tunes to more contemporary songs from artists Ed Shiren & Bruno Mars.
Saturday’s weather was perfect for leaf peeping. Crystal blue skies and bountiful colors had traveling tourists pulled over on many side roads to take pictures & marvel at the beauty of the mountains. Guests enjoyed a variety of activities in the area including, Oktoberfest at Mount Snow complete with live German music and German food. Our local winery, Honora Winery, hosted their annual grape stomp at their vineyard location where one can take in breathtaking vistas in every direction. Many of our guests visited The Wilmington Flea Market, always a favorite stop for unique Vermont products, antiques, and people watching.
Some of our naturist guests chose to have a relaxing day at Abbott’s Glen and enjoyed a light lunch of tomato bisque with fresh tomatoes accompanied by Gerry’s homemade maple oatmeal rolls. Guests whiled away the afternoon with hikes down to the river, reading by the fire, & playing some billiards.
Saturday dinners throughout fall always focus on the harvest. The dining room is set with an autumn touch, where gourds & candlelight create a perfect back drop for the meal that night. Our menu for this October eve included a roast pork topped with an apple chutney. Abbott’s Glen had a huge crop of apples this year, so we have been making fresh apple sauce, apple chutney, and a bevy of tempting apple breakfast treats & desserts. The remainder of our menu included cheddar mashed potatoes, autumn vegetable medley, and a dessert of apple crisp & freshly whipped cream. Guests finally found their way over to Club Sugar Shack where DJ Lindy and naturist guests danced into the wee hours of the night.
If you were one of the unlucky ones who had to work last weekend, no worries. This coming weekend, Abbott’s Glen will be providing another fine fall dinner with wood-fired pizza on Friday and a Harvest dinner on Saturday night, both followed by dancing in Club Sugar Shack. The autumn colors are still at peak, so you will have many photo opportunities while traveling dirt roads and stopping at roadside stands to bring home pumpkins, apples, & winter squashes.
We promise to keep the wood stove stoked to keep all our naturists guests warm and toasty. A hot tub & Finnish sauna will have you relaxed & comfortable, and you know Abbott’s Glen will feed you well. So what are you waiting for? We hope to see you!
