March 10 & 11~ Maple sugar season
this weekend at Abbott’s Glen.
Collecting sap in a tin bucket
Help us hanging buckets this Maple Sugar season to collect sap in making Vermont’s most cherished specialty, maple syrup. Each year Mother nature dictates when the sap starts to run. It has to be over 40 during the day & back into freezing in the night. Guests may join us in tapping about 50 maples , some of them which line the driveway to Abbott’s Glen. It is an age old tradition that punctuates the end of winter & beginning of spring.
If we are lucky, guests maybe ableMaple Sugar season to cross country ski or snowshoe with just a t shirt. Of course, the hot tub & sauna are two ways to warm up or situate yourself near a wood fire with a beverage.
Saturday dinner we will prepare our first maple theme dinner. Each course will feature maple in 1 form or another. A sweet dinner served in the Meadow House dining room with candle light & music. Our dinners always reflect the season & utilize as much local products as the year allows.
